How To Read My Journal.
Mar. 3rd, 2027 06:12 pmOkay, I just went through a friends' list edit, and I noticed something. So, it's public post time.
I am friends-only, and have been since February 2004, due to some rather puerile behavior which went on in my journal at the time. My very last public post is a rant about this, at the end of which, I instruct people to comment if they want to be added, which is SOP on friends-only journals.
Apparently, people either cannot or do not read instructions, or they cannot or do not follow them.
With certain exceptions, I do not care who reads my journal, so long as I know them in some context, either online or in real life.
But please, PLEASE PLEASE, pretty, PRETTY please with a cherry on top leave me a comment here if you decide to add me (or send me an e-mail if that isn't working... I've had that happen before due to some screwy settings I had on my LJ -- my address is in my profile). Otherwise, my journal is going to be pretty damn boring to read, as you won't be able to SEE any entries. I have a tendency to not look at who has friended me on a regular basis, so unless you somehow alert me that you've added me, I likely won't notice that you've added me for several months. Again: Friends-only means that unless I add you back, you won't be able to read any of my entries.
You should include in your comment a note about why you're adding me, and if we've met, either in real life, or online. If I don't know you from somewhere else, either online or in real life, chances are good that I'm not going to add you, since I have a tendency, in general, not to trust people.

nice attitude.
I came across you at sheer random. Don't worry- I won't be adding you anytime soon. Adding people is supposed to make friends, not foes.

Date: 2007-03-26 02:52 pm (UTC)I decided to go with a "friends only" journal this time too. Like you said, it's not because I want to hide behind anything; I just want to know who's reading it. I think that's totally fair. And at the end of the day, a journal is somewhere you should feel totally safe to express yourself. I don't really understand the comment made by the user above, but I guess everyone is entitled to his own opinion.
But anyway, I'm just writing this to tell you that I'm going to add you to my list. After all, our musical compatibility rating is "very high." :)
Cheers.

Date: 2007-03-26 04:45 pm (UTC)I like a lot of Canadian bands that don't get any airplay here in the US, plus I have an unhealthy obsession with Tim Horton's (the closest one to me is two hours away, and the US ones just are not as good as the Canadian ones).
You may be interested to know that one of my ex-girlfriends lived in Welland (I met her through a GBS fan board), so I'm somewhat familiar with the Niagara peninsula. I've driven through Hamilton (though I haven't strayed from the Q-E in that area). For what it's worth. I put A LOT of miles on my car during that year and a half.
And that was a little chapter of a book to say that when our President ends up making everyone else in the world hate us and want to destroy us, I could probably pass for Canadian pretty easily. ;)
I've returned the favor and added you back. I was in a meeting at work (and I generally don't check LJ from work, but I do check e-mail), so that's why I waited until lunchtime.

Date: 2007-08-09 01:49 pm (UTC)I'm Becca's friend. Becca who goes to University of Michigan. How did you get your theme for your LJ? I want it! I'm nit-picking, but it's missing 1 building that I can see. That new building, next to the Pru, with the open roof. That building.
And. . . I did FIRST robotics in High School too, for Boston Latin. The "NU-Trons"
Hope to hear back from you.

Date: 2007-09-19 02:44 pm (UTC)A few things about me:
- My lj is completely empty to the public because it is all friends only.
- I don't do filters. You read everything, whether you want to or not. lol.
- I'm online way too much.
- I read every entry of my friends, and most of the time I comment. I like finding new friends, but I don't like when I feel like they have only added me to comment on their entries and make themselves feel more popular. I have a few who don't even comment on mine and it annoys me. If you won't bother reading, please let me know so that I can unadd you.
- I'm pretty unique, some infos on the lj page, but since I've added you, you can read some entries if you want :)

Date: 2007-10-24 03:04 am (UTC)Another Michigander, eh? That brings the total number of you on my friends' list to... 2.5 (the .5 just moved to Baltimore). 2 from
I say this because I'm going to start looking for a new job, and I'd like to do something in Intelligent Vehicle Systems/Intelligent Highways/Computer Vision and that MIGHT mean Detroit, and in that case I want some Michiganders telling me about nice neighborhoods, if they exist.

Date: 2008-02-22 03:43 pm (UTC)Saw a comment from you on iamjanjan's journal and checked out your info page. Your journal sounds interesting (especially the homeownership stuff and the robotics stuff-- I just learned about FIRST Robotics about 2 months ago when I was asked to volunteer at a Lego League regional competition here in Champaign, IL).
May I be your friend?
My journal is not super intersting... just stuff about grad school, our new dog, and living in Champaign... but *shrugs*.

Date: 2013-01-10 11:16 pm (UTC)Once when I lived in Baltimore I went to a party at a farmhouse off of I-70, some distance west of town (but not even as far as Hagerstown), and I had this idea I wanted to live in such a place, see the stars at night, it'd be worth it for the commute, ... But I've still never had a commute longer than 15 minutes. And it's only when conditions are right that I can really see the stars at night.
